By means o f metalloscopy, the paper deals w ith the cr ack init iation and pro pag ation as w ell as the fr act ur e mor pho log y of the sur face in a g ear mat eria l 40CrNiMo with medium hardness, meanw hile it ana ly zes the failure mechanism o f the material on metallo gr apy.
