Abstract:
A desig n method for wind resistance of steel tall buildings with the installatio n of v iscoelastic dampers ( VED) is presented. With t he effective damping ratio of steel tall building installed w ith VED obtained, the revised formulas of wind v ibration co efficient and fluctuation increment coefficient are established. The calculation met hods of stor ey acceleration responses of t he structur e suppressed by VED in alongwind and acrosswind dir ections are introduced. The example of a 50- storey building is g iven to illustrate that the design method described in the paper is very convenient and effective, and practical for structural engineers.
